Seniors

From the first session, classes begin with karate fundamentals, including stances that build stability, balance and agility, basic punching and kicking form, and consecutive step-in punching drills. Next, posture building exercises include front and side planks, wall sits and grippers. Classes finish with jump rope on a 2-inch cushioned mat, with each participant jumping at their own pace and comfort level within a timed interval.

Why JumpIron is Specifically Suited for Seniors

Sarcopenia, the age-related loss of skeletal muscle mass, begins around age 35 and accelerates significantly after 60. Aging disproportionately affects Type II fast-twitch muscle fibers, which are lost through progressive denervation of fast motor units. These are the fibers responsible for catching yourself when you stumble, climbing stairs quickly, and maintaining functional independence.

Walking and gentle exercise do not train Type II fibers. JumpIron's explosive karate techniques and weighted jump rope intervals specifically address this gap, training the reactive power and neuromuscular responsiveness that conventional senior fitness programs largely neglect.

New to Fitness

For seniors beginning or returning to structured exercise. Classes follow the same program structure and are active from the first session, with careful progression tailored to each participant.

Currently Working Out

For seniors who have been working out consistently for at least six months. Classes progress more rapidly, incorporating heavier ropes, longer jump rope intervals and more demanding karate drills and katas, including heart rate guided training with Apple Watch and Polar H10 Heart Rate Sensor.
